Hi all,
Chrom-Design.de (http://www.chromdesign.de/) now offers a non-bolt-on boot rack (http://shop.chromdesign.de/product_info.php?info=p2318_gepaecktraeger-edelstahl-fuer-daihatsu-copen-version-1.html) made by Classic Carriers (http://www.classic-carriers.nl/).
It's made out of stainless steel and this version 1 only fits on Copens without a spoiler.
Version 2 for Copens with spoiler is being worked on.
Version 1 Part-No: CC40100G
Price: 298,00 €
Perfect solution for me, as I do not like to drill holes in the boot lid and only put the rack on, in case I really need it.

That looks great, doesn't it? Love the leather case too!
I have a new style Copen...and must admit that I would now prefer to be without the spoiler.
However I'll definitely look for the new style as I'm also not keen on the drill option.
That looks much nicer than the other rack I've seen. How is it with the paintwork? Does it scratch it?
I don’t mean to sound negative, but is it legal?
When fitted and has a case strapped on, won't it will hide the high level brake light?
[Although calling a high level brake light, might be a slight exaggeration!!]

I've been thinking about one of those and that one looks great!!
Where did you get the chrome bumper overiders? They look very cool too.

Nice looking rack for the un-spoilerd. I would check the legality of a hidden 3rd brake light. Mind you, it hardly qualifies as a "high" level light....one of the lwoest third brake lights I know of.

Nope, underneath the stainless steeel bands there is a rubber strap and also the inside of the hooks at the end of the bands are covered with some piece of plastic. On the third picture (http://copenworld.com/vb3/attachment.php?attachmentid=20) it can be seen best.

Yes, you are right, the third brake light cannot be seen when the case is on the rack. But as I will put rack and case on only when it really is needed, I will live with that. For how many years did they produce cars with only two brake lights? :D
But as I got to know, Chrome-Design also is working on a solution for that problem, kind of universal third brake light to be mounted on the rack.
Where did you get the chrome bumper overiders?

Hi all,
apparently the development for a non-bolt-on boot rack for a Copen with spoiler is progressing.
Pics can be found on the US-website (http://www.classiccarrier.com/carmodel.php?carmodel=23) of Classic Carriers (http://www.classic-carriers.eu/):

Hi Andreas,
Erik from Classic Carriers initially built the Boot Rack for Michaela and Myself.
The Car Dealer in Holland who's Car was used for the Photo's has bought the Prototype.
He is currently building two Racks, one for me and one for a customer of Chromdesign.
I will keep the Forum informed of it's progress.

Got mine from here CBR1045. Fits with or without spoiler. Rubber feet overhang slightly with spoiler but it works fine.

£ 52.12 + postage. I think about £63.00 in total.
Had to make one slight modification because the boot lid narrows towards the rear the clamps tend to slide when tightening them up. Simple solution drilled straight through clamp on the rack end, and the rack, and put a small bolt through to hold it in place.
Will take pictures and post them after Easter when its been in use.

As someone has expressed interest, and it gets me away from mowing lawns and cutting hedges for a while, here are the pics.

You can see from the 2nd picture the mod that I made to stop the clamp from sliding. Although the threaded bars supplied were long enough I had some lengths of the right size so made some longer ones to make it easier to attach.
Looks good. Thanks for the pics.
Does the boot open and close okay with the rack fitted?

Yes, boot opens and closes, roof goes up and down no problem. It is really solid as well. I can throw my whole weight against it, which is considerable, and I can't move it. The other advantage is that it doesn't obscure the high level brake light because it stands up on legs and you can see underneath it.
Thanks for posting Ricochet.
Sounds like a really good buy. Now, where is my cheque book....

Looks good, and they do international delivery, so I could get one down here on the bottom of the planet!
